Highway Dept. - twenty year construction program files, 1977.

In 1977 the State Highway Dept. planned to embark on a large-scale highway construction program. The state legislature conducted hearings around the state and collected information on highway needs in Ala. This series includes transcripts of hearings and other information such as reports and correspondence regarding highway improvement and development in Ala. Included are transcripts of public hearings held in Jasper, Gadsden, Mobile, Sheffield, Dothan, Opp, Scottsboro, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Alexander City, Oxford, Grove Hill, and Demopolis. Also included are copies of the publication entitled "Alabama Highway Research: determination of the state-of-the-art in generating revenue for Highway Department operation" prepared by R.K. Rainer, et. al. and several reports prepared by the Ala. Citizens for Transportation.
